Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo, a multi-awarded Movie and Television personality, has maximized her potentials through education, media, and public service. A product of the University of the Philippines Speech and Drama Department, she has pursued various courses in developmental programs, journalism, public and media relations and film, and television productions locally and in the U.S. (Georgetown University), Netherlands (Hilversum Television), France and Italy.

Notable in her employment history is being Press Attache/Cultural Officer/Special Assistant to the Ambassador, Philippine Embassy in Washington D.C. in the 80s..As an educator, she was a lecturer/trainor in Philippine Language, Culture and History at the Georgetown University’s Center for Immigration Studies. Upon repatriation in 1993, she continued her multi-media work in the Philippines. She was Assistant Professor for mass communications subjects at the ADMU, U.P. and La Salle from 2002 to 2013 and continues to conduct workshops and seminars on mass communications-related subjects as well as on value formation and management.


Through her almost 50 years in Theatre, Radio, Television, Advertising and Film, Boots has been involved in management positions and as performing artist for multimedia productions companies:

  • In 1996, she became Vice president of Premiere Productions; and appointed Chairman of International Broadcasting Corp. (IBC-13) in July of 1998.
  • Member, Board of Governors – Film Academy of the Philippines
  • Chairman of the Cinema Committee, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)
  • Vice Chairman, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkasters – Metro Manila Chapter
  • Served as Commissioner for Communications of the UNESCO
  • Served in the Board of the YMCA – Makati
  • Director of the Jesuit Communication Foundation for Asia (CFA)
  • Member, Metro Manila Film Festival Executive Committee
  • Represented the country in various capacities abroad
  • Proclaimed Honorary Citizen of the City of Carson, California.
  • Guest of Honor and Lecturer to the students of Taj Int’l School and other universities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  • In 2011, as Keynote Speaker at the First Philippine Film Festival in Dubai
  • In 2013, an Awardee and Speaker at the University of the Phils. Alumni Association Centennial in Las Vegas’


Boots has been actively involved in public service since the 70s as:

  • Host/Moderator of GMA7s show “Kapwa Ko Mahal Ko”
  • Director for DARE, Philippine Mental Health Association – Quezon City Chapter
  • National Commission for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled
  • UP-PGH Medical Foundation
  • Philippine National Red Cross and the Organ Transplant Foundation
  • Commissioner of the Philippine Commission on Population

 

Boots has reaped a Litany of Awards:

  • Best Actress awards from FAMAS and other Award-giving bodies
  • Aliw Best Emcee, and other media awards
  • Recipient of the TOWNS – The Outstanding women in the Nation’s Service award
  • Gintong Ina Awards
  • Outstanding U.P. Alumni
  • FAP Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Shared with her late husband Pete Roa, the Outstanding Parents of the Year Award from the Ideal Family Foundation
  • Chosen one of the top 100 Centennial Filipinos in 2000
  • Recently proclaimed 14th out f 80 Most Trusted Filipinos by Readers Digest
  • Awarded in October, 2014 as One of the Most Influential Filipinas in the world by the U.S. based Filipina Women’s Network

 

The Seventy-Four year old Boots is a mother of four and a grandmother of 9. On June 14, 2014, in a much heralded and acclaimed wedding celebrated by Cardinal Chito Tagle, she married the prominent widower and respected lawyer, Francisco “King” Rodrigo, Jr., son of the revered Senator Soc Rodrigo. She hopes tp publish her autobiography in 2020.
